Tones of Tranquility CD
Tones of Tranquility is a CD of chorales (hymn tunes) composed between 1524 and 1793.
I began this project as a relaxation tape for my wife shortly after our first child was born, to help her relax after an exhausting birth and the middle-of-the-night nursing sessions. I found it quite helpful also, since I was often the one to change the baby and bring him to my wife for those nursing sessions. It remained as a tape only in the posession of my wife, my mother-in-law, and myself for many years. With the acquisition recently of a high-speed computer with high-speed CD burner it became easy to create this more permanent CD from the original tapes.
When I gave of a copy of this CD to a friend who had suffered a heart attack a couple of years ago,
his second comment (after "This is beautiful!") was "This is just what cardiac rehab people need!"
He then recounted all the sessions he had undergone to learn various relaxation techniques
and the various music that was played in the background during those sessions.
He told me that Tones of Tranquility would be ideal for relaxation sessions.
But Tones of Tranquility is not just for cardiac rehab patients and caregivers! This is an ideal CD for anybody who wants to relax.
I gave a copy to some other friends and their two sons use the CD to help them fall asleep at night!
The beauty of these old chorales has served people for up to 479 years and the music is just as effective today as when it was written.

This music was recorded by entering the music into the old DOS notation program MusicPrinterPlus from Temporal Acuity Products, Inc. Then I had MusicPrinterPlus play the music through a Kurzweil K2000 synthesizer, using several different vocal patches. The output from the Kurzweil was recorded through a Fostex 260 Multitrack recorder.
